Quality Safety & Reliability
Quality
Burnham Commercial constantly strives to improve our product offering. Burnham has invested over $1 million in the past two years in new machinery and quality verification tooling to ensure that we are using the most state-of-the-art machinery available. New machinery allows Burnham to hold tolerances withing one-one thousandth of an inch (.001 inches); which is about 1/4 the thickness of a piece of paper.
The addition of fully automated CNC (computer numeric controlled) machinery increases the accuracy of maching operations and allows the operator to inspect every piece while the machinery is maching the next boiler casting.
All Burnham Commercial cast iron boilers have a one-year parts warranty and 10-year Limited Warranty for the cast iron sections.
Safety
Safety has always been a top riority for Burnham. We test all our cast iron products in accordance with ASME Section IV requirements. Individual boiler castings are tested at 2-1/2 times the maximum allowable working pressure at our Zanesville, OH foundry, and factory assembled sections are tested at 1-1/2 times the working pressure at our Lancaster, PA manufacturing facility.
Series 8H boilers are also shipped with both a flame rollout switch (FRS) and a blocked vent switch (BVS), although not required on all sizes. These are saftey measures that Burnham feels are important in order to preserve a safe envrionment in the boiler room and occupied areas of a building. Flame rollout and blocked vent switches will automatically shut down the boiler in the event that the flue passages or venting becomes restricted. Without these safety switches, this is increased danger of flue gas leaks or fire.
Reliability
Burnham boilers are application tested with a variety of burner manufacturers including: Beckett, Carlin, Gordon-Piatt, Power Flame and Webster. In addition to conducting application tests at each of the respective burner manufacturers, Burnham Commercial verifies testing in our own lab to ensure the burners can fire properly when installed in the boiler room.
During development of the MPC Series Boiler, Burnham complete a myriad of design tests and field tests to improve the performance before ever being offered for sale. Tests include advanced thermal imagery in which we recorede the temperature diestribution throughout the entire section assembly. Burnham engineers tested several types of rope gasket to seal the toungue-and-groove joints around the boiler firnally going with a proven combination of silicon-coated fiberglass rope gasket.
In order to reduce fuel consumption and provide even heat distribution through the boiler, Burnham Commercial has implemented low fire hold on V9 and V11 boilers bringing the boiler up to temperature slowly and reducing the risk of thermal shock. Many commercial boiler manufacturers offer this feature as an option, but the benefit of low fire hold is clear and Burnham has taken the industry lead to make it standard on V9 and V11 boilers.
